MY SERVICES

How to Begin

Often the process of hiring an organizer is a step that holds someone back. I regularly hear “I need to prepare before you come” or “I am not ready for you to see my place.” This is a natural response. However, there is no shame or judgment here. It is more important to get moving and start the process than it is for you to prepare for my arrival. I have seen all levels of (dis)organization and am able to work with you where you are now.

While difficult, it is critical that you get past this stage of reluctance (or fear).

What I Do

I will speak with you over the phone and set up an initial consultation to evaluate the job. The next step would be to schedule working sessions. Most often I need to work directly with you to be most effective. That said, it is also possible to work on my own while in touch with you via phone/text if the situation requires.

Process:

1)      Look at your space and evaluate all areas in terms of use

2)      Decide what spaces should be addressed and how you want to prioritize them.

3)      Remove items from the spaces and sort them (keep, donate, toss, and possibly keep & store).

4)      Redesign/reconfigure spaces for better organization.

NOTES

Don’t start with shopping:

I am in favor or using what you have—at least to start. Many people think that they need to start by going out and buying organizing bins and supplies. In my experience, it is best to use what you have and to evaluate what you might need as you work. I am not against purchasing new items for organization and better storage—but this is not my initial focus.

Maintenance/Practice/Systems:

I will help you to set up systems to keep your space looking good and functioning well. It is important to note that you will need to devote some time to maintaining your organized space. This can be a fairly minimal commitment but it is critical that you pick up and sort your things on a regular basis to make sure you do not fall back into old patterns. I will create a maintenance system and schedule which fits your needs.

Papers, clothing, photos and memorabilia:

Do you have stacks of photos (physical or digital) which have never made it into albums? Piles of paper and mail that you don’t want to touch? These are often our biggest sources of clutter. I can help you create photo albums (or organize attractive photo storage) and systems to sort, manage and store papers and memorabilia.
